Excellent book for college drafting course.
This is an excellent college level text.I particularly like the detailed "real world" drafting problems for the students. Also it has a very good apppendix. It is comprehensive enough that we use it in three different courses here at Vincennes University.

EXTREMELY HELPFUL
I have had this book in my drafting library for some time now. I am always using it and recommending it. The book is laid out so that you can go from beginning drafting up through advanced. It not only says what the standards are, but walks you through drafting technology so that you understand why they are like they are. I believe that anyone that is going to be doing drafting should have this in their library.

Greatness of the Kingdom
Published in Hardcover by BMH Books (05 January, 2001)
Author: Alva J. McClain
Average review score:

Outstanding Book--Must Read
I am currently reading this book for the second time. McClain discusses in easy-to-understand language God's unraveling plan of kingdom rule on earth. This book is definite reading to gain an understanding of the Old Testament covenants and their relation to Jesus Christ as "Mediatorial" King. In addition, McClain sheds light on the unique post-Pentecost era as a time of a reoffer to Israel of her promised Old Testament kingdom blessings through repentance and faith in Christ. This rejected, the Gentiles become members of the "ekklesia" or church. The Pauline epistles become, then, the outlaying of God's gradual revelation of the "mystery" or Church Age... which is closed at the "rapture." Israel's promised blessings, then, await a period of tribulation after which Christ will forcefully reenter history and take world power in a "Second Advent." McClain closes the book with an appendix on "Spirituality in the Kingdom" wherein he identifies Platonic Dualism as the main reason many Christians reject a literal millenial kingdom in the future. McClain convincingly shows that such Greek concepts are not found in scripture. Interesting, fun reading that makes you think throughout the day what you have read.

A comprehensive look at the Kingdom of God in the Bible
This book gives a wonderful, comprehensive picture of the plan of God throughout Scripture. Rather than being a stuffy book on Theology, this book excites as Mclain takes the reader on a tour through the Bible showing God's action in and through history. It will excite you to see God's plan in bringing His Kingdom. It will make you long to be a part of God's coming Kingdom.

Royal Tombs of Sipan = Tumbas Reales de Sipan
Published in Hardcover by Univ of California Museum of (September, 1993)
Authors: Walter Alva, Christopher B. Donnan, and Los Angeles Fowler Museum of Cultural Histor University of California

Highly recommended for students of Archeology & Peru
Much is known and published about the Incas of Peru, but, in comparison, little is known about the great Kingdom of the Moches. In the Northwest aired coastal plains of Peru flourished the Moche kingdom between the first and eighth century A.D.

This highly stratified culture, constructed and maintained a vast irrigation canal system, pyramids, places and temples. The Royal Tombs of Sipan was written to serve as a museum catalogue of the finds. The discovery, excavation, and current

interpretation of the three royal tombs recovered from Sipan happened between 1987 and 1990.

This book is wonderful. The beautiful color plates that chronologically lay out this amazing discovery makes the archeological dig at Sipan come alive. Highly recommended for those students of Archeology and those who are interested in the diverse Peruvian Culture.

Wonderful book with many beautiful photos and reconstructs.
As an ancient history enthusiast, I found this book to be a fabulous discovery on my part. The oversized format and pull-out recreations are pure joys to the reader. The excellent text, penned by the excavating archaeologist and by the leading authority on Moche iconography, is illustrated with wonderfully detailed photos as well as line drawings of scenes imprinted upon the artifacts themselves. I recommend this volume to anyone interested in pre-Inca history and art, as well as to anyone fascinated by the mystery revolving around the discovery of ancient treasures.

Technical Drawing

Average review score:

One of the best sources available
This book is loaded with technical information for the dratsman and designer. A must have for anyone who is in the mechanical technology field.

One of the best text books ever written...
This text was the basic drafting manual that I used during my technical education; its use did not end with school, however, since I refer to it frequently in my occupation. It tells everything that needs to be explained and described in the general drawing problems that might be encountered in industrial practice. It contains excellent descriptions and illustrations for: Drawing Threads, Fasteners & Springs Geometric Constructions Clear, Concise instructions in using Drafting Instruments, (before the time of Computer Aided Drafting & Desing, in any case). An Excellent overview of the Industrial Design & Development Process, (which I wish my supervisors would read). Sectional Drawing. This book is to drafting what Machinery's Handbook, of the Industrial Press, is to the metal working industries. There are a variety of Drafting Textbooks available, but none are incrementally better, let alone drasticaly better.

Diary and Sundry Observations of Thomas Alva Edison
Published in Hardcover by Greenwood Publishing Group (September, 1968)
Authors: Thomas Alva Edison and Dagobert D. Runes
Average review score:

We need a reprint for this outstanding book.
This book was incredible but you have to get the earliest edition, the one printed before his family decided to cut out the best parts to protect his reputation. If you order a used one by special order, be sure to specify that you want the earliest one. His family was nuts! They cut out the best parts.

The Edison Mystery : Qwerty Stevens, Back in Time

Qwerty Stevens Back in Time: The Edison Mystery
Thirteen-year-old Robert Stevens, known as Qwerty for the mistake he made in his third grade keyboarding class, unearths in his backyard a large mysterious wooden box that has the name Thomas Edison inscribed with gold lettering.

Qwerty and his best friend Joey who lives in West Orange, New Jersey in a community called Llewellyn Park bordering the mansion that Edison once lived in,locked themselves in his room to discover what was in the aged box. To their surprise, it was Thomas Edison's time Machine.

Unsure whether to give the machine to the authorities, sell it for millions, or take it to school to show off to their friends, the boys decided to find out how the time machine works before bringing it out of obscurity.

Qwerty hooked up the wires from the machine to his computer and with a touch of a button he was transported into Thomas Edison's workshop where he helped him develop the electric light bulb. Qwerty Stevens had no problem getting there. However, he needs his older sister, whom he hardly says more than one word to, to help him return home safely.

The author cleverly depicts Edison's story while adding circumstances that bring his character into the 21st century. In addition to the text, Gutman includes a "Truth and Lies" section in the back of the book with one recommendation "Read the story first!" Also included are black and white photographs of Edison's mansion and laboratory. In the far back of the book is the chronology of Thomas Edison. Younger children will also enjoy this book as a great read aloud. Living in the next town over from West Orange, I thoroughly enjoyed reading this book because the author captured the authenticity of the town. Children everywhere will enjoy this book but I know it will be a big hit in New Jersey.

Law & Grace
Published in Paperback by BMH Books (December, 1991)
Author: Alva J. McClain
Average review score:

An Excellent Concise Treatise on Law and Grace
This small work, by the Founding President of Grace Theological Seminary, is an excellent work by a classical dispensational writer. McClain, is known for tremendous scholarly work as is remembered by those who have read his magnum opus, "The Greatness of the Kingdom", which even got the likes of George Ladd fuming. Law and Grace is divided into 10 chapters which helps to understand McClain's approach. 1) "The Law" in New Testament Usage, 2) How the Law Could Give Eternal Life, 3) Law Unable to Save Men, 4) The Divine Purpose in Giving the Law, 5) God's Written Law and Israel, 6) The Mosaic Law and Gentiles, 7) The Christian and the Law, 8) Dangers of Putting Christians Under the Law, 9) The Standard of Life for Christians, 10) Objections, Questions and Problems.

McClain, having been a dispensationalist, holds the common view that Christians are not under the law. He even goes as far as to go against the modern trend to divide the law into three sections: moral, ceremonial, and civil. Since he does not trichotimize the law into these sections, he does not feel we can place a Christian under just the moral law because one cannot divide the law.

One must read this book when studying law and grace. While it is just a brief treatment, it is an excellent starter to this subject. McClain was a brilliant writer and that is affirmed even by his opponents. He is missed as he has gone to be with the Lord. In conclusion, read this book. It will stimulate and perhaps provoke your thinking, which is what Christians need.

Nosferatu
Published in Paperback by Graywolf Press (01 April, 2001)
Authors: Alva Henderson, Dana Gioia, and Anne Williams
Average review score:

What's opera without the music?
In this case, it's a remarkable dramatic poem, in which good vs. evil, light vs. darkness, need vs. greed and all the other Big Fights come evocatively wrapped in a vampire's cape. Despite the grand scale of the tragedy and the Gothic settting, or maybe because of it, you will find yourself identifying with the cursed and gifted heroine, her doomed goof of a husband, and the desperately lonely Orlock. The language is straight-forward and precise. How long will it take the Anne Rice crowd to find the anthems waiting between the covers of this undiscovered masterpiece?
